To make it to the top of our list, what ASUS has achieved with the XG43UQ is truly remarkable and shouldn’t be underestimated. This monitor is 100 percent made for gaming. 

Out of the box, you get the fully assembled monitor; I mean, the screen and the stand are already attached together. Then there’s some items, like the AC adapter and a whole box of cable, which I didn’t care to touch. 

After removing the cover, I see a nice, modern-looking monitor that can be prone to fingerprint smudges, so I handle it with care.

Speaking of bezels, they are on the larger side, measuring 18 millimeters on the sides and 25 millimeters at the bottom. I think they should be a bit slimmer but it’s okay if you look at the size of the screen. 

Next up, the stand has a unique design; it may look unconventional, but trust me! It’s a robust framework.

This ASUS monitor is a 43.4-inch 4K monitor with a VA panel that offers a great contrast ratio. It’s perfect for HDR content thanks to HDR 1000 support and AMD Freesync to prevent screen tearing.

The panel uses VA and WLED technology to reduce screen reflections with an anti-glare coating. For refresh rate, it gives 144 Hz, and for response time, it goes down to 1 ms, making it great for competitive gaming.

Now, there are some fun extras, too! like ELMB (Extreme Low Motion Blur) Sync helps reduce ghosting and tearing, and you get handy on-screen tools like a crosshair, FPS counter, timer, and alignment tools. Plus, you can split the screen into multiple displays for multitasking, all on one large screen.

When it comes to gaming performance on consoles, the monitor shines, offering an immersive experience with 4K, 120 FPS, and HDR support. However, for PC gaming, there are a few considerations. 

Despite this, the 144Hz panel performed well with FPS games such as Valorant, Overwatch, and CS:GO, making it a solid choice for PC gamers who can manage the display distance to reduce eye strain.

So, whatever the case, the image quality was amazing and could make anyone sit for hours. 

Furthermore, the XG43 is well-equipped with inputs, offering two USB 3.0 ports, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and two DisplayPorts. Importantly, it includes HDMI 2.1, making it an excellent choice for next-gen console gamers.

Finally, the OSD (On-Screen display) is advanced, allowing users to fine-tune various settings, from picture quality to LED lighting. 

It makes use of a combination of buttons and a joystick for navigation, with the joystick being a standout feature. It makes navigating menus and changing settings pretty easy.

2. Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 – The Editor’s Choice

I was thinking about adding a recommendation for a superwide monitor. 

I asked a few buddies, and that’s how I got my hands on the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7—not that 32-inch Neo G7, but the other 43 inch model.

It resembled a TV more than a monitor. In fact, it has smart TV features.

First appearance was pretty neat. However, the build was made out of cheap plastic, which I consider to be a total disappointment at such a high price. 

Moving on to its specs, it’s a 4K VA panel monitor with a matte finish and a 144 Hz refresh rate. There’s a 1 ms motion picture response time with a typical brightness of 400 nits.

Wait, there’s more! There’s also the Quantum mini LED panel, which supports VESA Display HDR600. Also, its advanced 12-bit backlight unit enhances HDR control for exceptional picture quality.

If I look at the back, there are some ports, including a DP 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.1 ports, 2x USB 3.0 ports, an Ethernet port, and an audio jack.

Now I tested it with a few games, starting with Metro Exodus, and the visual quality was nothing short of breathtaking. The level of detail and immersion really surpassed my expectations.

The color depth on the VA panel was really something I loved, and especially the dark scenes in the game added a remarkable level of realism.

I also tried Call of Duty Warzone, and here’s where a big screen can in handy. The 43-inch screens work well for FPS games. I don’t know if it was just me or what, but the huge screen was kind of making it easier to play FPS games. 

The monitor is equipped with two speakers, although I couldn’t find specific information about them. Their performance, however, was disappointing. 

They were surprisingly loud, to the point of being somewhat annoying. The bass was lacking, and the overall sound quality was laughable. I would say its better to turn them off and use external speakers or headphones.

The remote wasn’t helpful, as it may not offer an extensive range of options, but it is still a more user-friendly choice compared to navigating through an on-screen menu.

Lastly, the price is a bit high, but considering the size, resolution, mini LED technology, and refresh rate, it’s definitely worth the cost. 

3. Gigabyte M32U

4. Connectivity: USB 3.0 ports, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and 1x DisplayPorts

The Gigabyte M32U, a 32-inch UHD gaming monitor that came out last year, is a fairly interesting option for gamers. Let me tell you how: 

The box included cables like a DisplayPort 1.4, an HDMI 2.1 for 4K resolution, a USB Type A to Type B for OSD Sidekick software, some power cables for different regions and the monitor itself in the second layer.

So, this monitor is from Gigabyte, not from Gigabyte Aorus, and it’s going to look a bit basic and not a very offensive high-end gaming product. That’s why the body in here is plastic, and the bezels are super thin, making it look like a modern-day monitor. 

Now, let’s talk specs. It’s actually a 31.5 inch monitor 4K (3840 x 2160) IPS monitor that features a 144 Hertz refresh rate and a 1 ms motion picture response time. 

Moreover, the monitor boasts 10-bit color and a fantastic 90% DCI-P3 color display with a super wide-gamut range.

If you understand these features, you can guess how good the color will be. It is bright and crisp, in a nutshell. 

It has other gaming features for your graphics card, like for tear-free gameplay with AMD FreeSync. And I also checked out the KVM feature, which is, to say the least, a nice feature for switching between different systems with one set of keyboard and mouse. 

In terms of connectivity, the monitor has 2x HDMI ports (at least one is going to be HDMI 2.1 or maybe both), 1x DisplayPort, an audio jack, a USB Type-C connection (nice for Macbook users), a USB Type B and 3x USB Type A. 

At last, it’s stand is just normal, making it move up and down and toward the side, but not 90 degrees, which isn’t fair. 

After using it for a few weeks, I must say it’s a solid choice to consider. It offers a lot of great features at its price point, although it’s not the most extravagant option out there. The monitor creates a perfect balance between performance and affordability.

4. ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A

4. Connectivity: USB 3.0 ports, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and 1x DisplayPorts

Now that Asus saw Gigabyte thriving with their M32U, they decided to follow suit and create a similar monitor, which they’ve successfully done with this one.

During my review, I’ve noticed many aspects that are comparable to the M32U. So, I thought, if the M32U is on the list, why not consider the VG28UQL1A (a very long name indeed)?

Here, I think, in order to compete with the M32U, Asus has given special attention to performance rather than providing users with a large screen. 

The monitor has a 4K IPS panel with a refresh rate of 144 Hz and an impressive 1 ms response time (GTG). IPS does a pretty decent job here—not like Mini LED, but it’s good and very color accurate. 

Moreover, it has HDR with the DisplayHDR-400 standard. A 90% DCI-P3 color gamut ensures vivid and accurate colors, making your games come to life in stunning detail.

Next up, the monitor has an in-built ASUS ELMB SYNC technology, which allows you to use ELMB alongside variable refresh rate technologies to eliminate ghosting and tearing, making sure that the graphics remain crystal-clear even at high frame rates.

And yeah! There’s both NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium for a tear-free gaming experience, regardless of your graphics card choice. Plus, there’s an exclusive variable overdrive technology that further enhances gameplay by minimizing motion blur.

I’ve tested a few games on it, and I’ve found it to be more precise and more comfortable than the M32U. The screen size is also pretty accurate for FPS gaming and doesn’t cause any eye strain. 

Moreover, games like Valorant and Overwatch were looking fabulous and super fast, leaving no room for excuses. Pretty much similar to M32U. 

Here, the connectivity is also pretty good, like when you get two HDMI 2.1 ports, two HDMI 2.0 ports, and a DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC (Display Stream Compression). 

Both the DP 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 connectors support the full 4K 144Hz experience. There’s a joystick in the back (my favorite) with a few buttons for controlling the monitor’s menu.   

And if you ask about the stand, it’s better than the one on M32U. You can easily change its angle to a vertical or horizontal position.

Lastly, the price is very reasonable; if it were part of the ROG Strix series, it would likely cost even more. 

5. BenQ MOBIUZ EX3210U

No matter if you’re a gamer, creator, or professional in any field, the EXU3210 model can be an excellent choice for you. Let me tell you why:

Specs-wise, this monitor is a 32 inch 4K IPS monitor that handles up to 144 Hz refresh rate along with a nice 1 ms response time for tear-free gaming. Here, the panel is IPS, which means bright scenes will look fantastic on it.  

Furthermore, there’s AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for a better, smoother and tear-free gaming experience. Plus, there’s a variable refresh Rate (VRR) supported, which is another useful addition for console gamers

For my personal testing, I linked it up to a pretty average Dell laptop. I came up with a few thoughts and observations, like that image quality immediately stands out in terms of color density and pop, making my reviewing time more joyful. 

However, all HDR modes aside, this monitor is just not that bright; even with HDR on, it goes 528 nits. So, it doesn’t fulfill the DisplayHDR600 specification properly, which is kind of disappointing. 

But don’t worry, there’s some other feature that might seem useful for you, like the fact that BenQ has thrown in some image optimization features. With HDRi technology, Light Tuner, and Black eQualizer, your gaming visuals will look better than ever. 

And let’s not forget about the audio! The speakers are actually good here—not loud, but nice, rich and punchy. It’s not going to replace external speakers but if you don’t have an external speaker, then this might be suitable for regular usage. 

But wait, there’s more, AI noise-canceling mic. Its a clever addition to filter out annoying background noises like keyboard clatter, so your voice always comes through loud and clear during phone calls or game chat.

When it comes to connectivity, it offers some USB ports, a display port, and 2x HDMI 2.1 (offering a whopping 48 GB of bandwidth). That means you can enjoy native 4K gaming at 120 Hz on the Xbox Series X and PS5. 

I’ve also tested it with some consoles, and it does a great job in terms of compatibility. It works seamlessly with PS5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, so you won’t have to stress about compatibility issues when connecting your favorite consoles.

6. AOC Gaming U28G2XU2 – The Budget One

4. Connectivity: 2x 1.4 DisplayPort, 2x 2.0 HDMI, USB 3.0

There is no doubt that this is the number one recommendation for the best budget-friendly monitor. (I mean, among the 4K 144Hz.) 

At just 350 pounds, the AOC offers incredible value for its price, and it’s clear that AOC wants to keep our wallets happy.

Out of the box, you get a 28-inch monitor with a resolution of 3840×2160, capable of running at a maximum of 144 hertz. However, there’s something that initially left me puzzled.

While examining it closely, I found that it comes with two HDMI 2.0 ports and two DisplayPort 1.4 ports, which means there’s no native way to support 144 Hz out of the box. 

The HDMI 2.0 port maxes out at 4K 60 Hz, while the DisplayPort caps at 4K 120 Hz.

To achieve the full 144 Hz refresh rate, you’ll need a powerful graphics card with DSC (you can search separately to check whether your GPU supports it or not). 

Powerful, I mean like the RTX 2000 series, 3000 series, 4000 series, or AMD RX 5000 series or 6000 series.

Personally, I tried this monitor with my RTX 3070ti, and I found that the GPU really needs a lot of power to reach that high refresh rate. 

However, smaller games like Valorant and CS:GO can reach that sweet 4K at 144 Hz.

And while gaming, I noticed that the image stuttering and motion blur are almost nonexistent; every frame is rendered sharply and smoothly, significantly enhancing precision in games and making high-speed races a visual delight.

The MPRT (moving picture response time) and GtG (grey-to-grey) technologies ensure pixel transitions are fast and smooth with zero ghosting or motion blur.

Now, let’s talk about the image quality. This monitor delivers stunningly sharp images, capturing even the finest details for an immersive visual experience.

The IPS panel provides lifelike colors and precise color accuracy that remains consistent from various viewing angles, ensuring a visually pleasing display no matter how you look at it. This is where you might wonder why Asus monitors are priced so much higher. 

Moving on to the stand, it offers full adjustability, including tilt, height adjustment, and swivel options. You can even rotate the monitor to switch it into portrait mode. 

Additionally, it comes with a four-port USB 3.2 hub, including a yellow fast-charging port, which is always a convenient feature to have. experience.

In summary, the AOC Gaming U28G2XU2 is a fantastic monitor if you intend to use it with a PC. However, if you’re planning to use it with a console, keep in mind that its maximum performance is limited to 1440p at 120Hz. (there’s no HDMI 2.1 for going beyond that.) 

Pro tip: Skip it if you’re a console gamer. Buy a 1440p monitor instead.
